advanced carbon recovery systems

the why

Changing the way the world thinks about waste.

Our mission is to develop and provide a turnkey technology solution that converts organic biomass feedstocks into carbon-rich char and energy through the process of gasification. This allows us to divert waste from landfills and reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.

the problem

Most residual waste from construction, demolition, commercial and industrial sites ends up in landfill.

When biomass is disposed of in landfill it is compacted, covered and buried. The absence of oxygen in these conditions cause it to break down in an anaerobic process releasing large quantities of methane and carbon dioxide which contribute to climate change.

Burying the biomass also prevents the

vast amounts of embedded energy found in the bonds between the carbon atoms to be recovered as heat or electricity.

the solution

Advanced gasification technology to convert biomass into energy and carbon sequestering char.

efficient carbon sequestration

Gasification occurs when biomass is thermally treated in an oxygen deprived environment. A carbonization reaction occurs which allows the biomass to form solid biochar.

The bonds between the carbon atoms in the biochar are much stronger than those found in the original biomass making it resistant to degradation when placed in the environment. This allows the carbon to be sequestered for very long periods of time.

Depending on the original feedstock, biochar can then be used for horticulture, stock feed or as a building material.

automated operation

Designed to operate 24 hours a day, 6.5 days a week with scheduled maintenance breaks, the technology is semi-automated and is designed from the outset to require minimal staff. The gasification process is carefully controlled and feed is metered to ensure optimal conversion of biomass to char. Emissions controls systems (if required) automatically dose reagents to treat NOx and SOx found in the offgases before they are released to atmosphere.

feedstock agnostic

Our technology has been designed to be used with a variety of biomass fuel sources including construction & demolition residual waste (timber and small amounts of polymers), agricultural residues, timber and green waste.

born to be modular

The Burru-4000 units have been designed to be flat-packed for transport in a 40ft shipping container.

The units can be assembled and dissembled on site with standard tools and equipment.

Replacement parts are all designed to be quick to procure and easily shipped anywhere around the world.

our technology

BURRU-4000

A single BURRU-4000 furnace unit is designed to produce 4000kW of thermal energy by gasifying 1000kg of suitable biomass feedstock (30% moisture) per hour.

The offgases are burnt in an integrated thermal oxidiser to destroy volatile compounds.

The heat generated in the gasification process can then be used to generate electricity via a steam turbine or steam screw expander.
